Calculate your Body Mass Index and health status
About the BMI Calculator
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a quick screening measure that relates your weight to your height. Doctors and public health bodies such as the World Health Organization use it to put adults into broad weight categories.
How it works
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For example, a person who weighs 70 kg and is 1.75 m tall has a BMI of 70 ÷ 3.0625 ≈ 22.9. The WHO adult categories are: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight, and 30 or more obese.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is BMI accurate for everyone?
No. BMI doesn't distinguish muscle from fat, so very muscular people can score as overweight. It is also not designed for children, pregnant women or the elderly. Use it as a starting point, not a diagnosis.
Q. What is a healthy BMI?
For most adults, 18.5 to 24.9 is considered the healthy range. Some health agencies use lower cut-offs for people of Asian descent.
Q. How do I convert pounds and inches?
Divide pounds by 2.2046 to get kilograms, and multiply inches by 2.54 to get centimetres. You can also use our Unit Converter.
