About the Date Difference
The Date Difference tool counts the time between any two dates in days, weeks and approximate months. Use it to plan projects, count down notice periods, or work out how long ago something happened.
How it works
Both dates are converted to timestamps and subtracted. The difference in milliseconds is divided by the length of a day to get whole days, then by 7 for weeks. Months are approximated by dividing by 30.44, the average month length over a 400-year Gregorian cycle.

Q. Is the end date included?
The result is the number of days between the dates. If you need to count both the first and last day (for example, for hotel nights versus days of a trip), add one.
Q. Why are months shown as approximate?
Months have 28 to 31 days, so there is no single exact conversion from days to months. The tool uses the average month length.
Q. Can I count business days only?
Not yet. This tool counts calendar days, including weekends and public holidays. Check our Holidays pages for national holiday dates.
