About the Number to Words
The Number to Words converter spells out numbers in English words, such as 1,250 → "one thousand two hundred and fifty". It is useful for writing cheques, legal documents, invoices and for learning English numbers.
How it works
The number is split into groups of billions, millions, thousands and hundreds. Each group is spelled out using the words for 1–19 and the tens, with hyphens between tens and units (forty-two) and "and" after hundreds, following British and Commonwealth style.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why does it say "and" after hundred?
British, Indian and Commonwealth English use "one hundred and five". American English often leaves out the "and"; both are correct.
Q. Does it handle decimals?
Not currently. For cheques, write the cents or paise separately, such as "and 50/100".
Q. Does it support lakh and crore?
Not yet. It uses the international system of thousands, millions and billions. One lakh is 100,000 and one crore is 10,000,000.
