Tip Calculator
Calculate tip amount and split bills easily
About the Tip Calculator
The Tip Calculator works out the tip and the total for a restaurant or service bill, and splits it evenly between any number of people.
How it works
Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100, total = bill + tip, and each person pays total ÷ number of people. For example, a $84 bill with an 18% tip is $15.12 in tip and $99.12 in total, or $33.04 each for three people.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How much should I tip?
Customs vary widely. In the US, 15–20% is typical at sit-down restaurants. In much of Europe and Asia a service charge is often included or a small round-up is enough. Always check the bill for an existing service charge.
Q. Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Etiquette guides generally suggest tipping on the pre-tax amount, but many people tip on the total for simplicity.
Q. Can I split the bill unevenly?
This tool splits evenly. For uneven splits, calculate each person's share of the bill first and apply the same tip percentage to each.
